How Red Collar Was Born

Meet Tucker, the beloved English Mastiff of Mechelle, President and Founder of Red Collar Rescue & Recovery. After an unexpected escape from a boarding kennel, Tucker survived 22 long days alone in the desert, losing 48 pounds but never losing hope.

Throughout the ordeal, one truth became clear to Mechelle: there was no local, experienced team equipped to humanely trap and recover lost pets. What began as a crisis soon revealed a calling.

From that calling, Red Collar Rescue & Recovery was born, providing compassionate, humane trapping services so no family in her community has to face such a challenge alone.

Our Mission

Red Collar Rescue & Recovery is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to helping lost, vulnerable, and at-risk dogs reach safety.

Through expert recovery strategies, humane trapping, community education, advocacy, and collaborative partnerships with animal welfare organizations, we work to reunite owner-lost dogs with their families and create pathways to safety for dogs with nowhere else to turn.

We believe every dog deserves the opportunity to be safe, and that communities are stronger when individuals and organizations work together to make that possible.

What We Do

A lost dog doesn’t know how to find their way home. An abandoned dog may not have anyone coming for them. That’s where we come in.

We are a Southern Arizona registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to helping lost and at-risk dogs get a second chance at safety.

We specialize in the safe, strategic recovery of owner-lost dogs—especially the dogs who are scared, hiding, injured, or too difficult to reach through traditional search methods. We also respond to abandoned dogs in immediate danger, including those who are starving, injured, pregnant, nursing, or struggling to survive on their own.

We don't just search. We strategize.

Every dog is different. Their behavior, environment, fears, routines, and surroundings all matter. Our team combines humane trap-assisted recovery, remote monitoring, field experience, and strategic consultation to build a recovery plan around the individual dog.

We use trusted equipment—including Tomahawk traps and Spartan live-feed cameras—but our greatest tool is knowing when, where, and how to use them.

Because finding a lost dog isn't about luck. It's about having the right plan and not giving up. Whether you're searching for a beloved family member or trying to save a dog who has been left behind, we believe every dog deserves someone willing to keep looking.
