How Red Collar Was Born

Meet Tucker, the beloved English Mastiff of Mechelle, President and Founder of Red Collar Rescue & Recovery. After an unexpected escape from a boarding kennel, Tucker survived 22 long days alone in the desert, losing 48 pounds but never losing hope.

Throughout the ordeal, one truth became clear to Mechelle: there was no local, experienced team equipped to humanely trap and recover lost pets. What began as a crisis soon revealed a calling.

From that calling, Red Collar Rescue & Recovery was born, providing compassionate, humane trapping services so no family in her community has to face such a challenge alone.

Our Mission

Red Collar Rescue & Recovery is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to bringing lost dogs home and giving at-risk abandoned dogs a second chance.

We combine expert recovery strategies, humane trapping, community education, advocacy, and partnerships with animal welfare organizations to create effective, compassionate solutions for dogs in crisis.

We believe every dog deserves a chance to be safe, and that stronger communities are built when people and organizations come together to make that possible.

A lost dog may be scared, hiding, injured, or unable to find their way home. An abandoned dog may have no one coming for them. That’s where we come in.

Red Collar Rescue & Recovery is a Southern Arizona registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to giving lost and at-risk dogs a second chance at safety.

We specialize in the safe, strategic recovery of lost dogs—especially those who are frightened, hiding, injured, or difficult to reach through traditional search methods. We also help abandoned dogs in immediate danger, including those who are starving, injured, pregnant, nursing, or struggling to survive on their own.

Every dog is different. Their behavior, environment, fears, routines, and surroundings all provide important clues. Our team combines humane trap-assisted recovery, remote monitoring, field experience, and strategic consultation to develop a recovery plan tailored to each dog.

We use trusted tools, including Tomahawk traps and Spartan live-feed cameras. But equipment is only part of the solution. Knowing when, where, and how to use those tools is what makes the difference.

Because recovering a lost or abandoned dog isn't about luck. It's about understanding the dog, having the right plan, and refusing to give up.
